Eiffel Tower Welcomed More Visitors in 2023 than Before the Covid Era

The Eiffel Tower in Paris celebrated a remarkable milestone, hosting 6.3 million visitors in the past year, surpassing the pre-Covid-19 figures from 2019, as disclosed by its management company on Friday.

The notable eight percent increase in last year's visitor count was attributed to special events commemorating the centenary of its visionary designer Gustave Eiffel, who passed away a century ago, according to a statement from the SETE operating company.

In an effort to enhance the visitor experience, the iconic tower introduced new features such as guided tours and gourmet meals crafted by celebrity chefs, available in its upscale restaurant.

The beloved "Iron Lady" of France had previously recorded up to seven million visits in 2014 and 6.2 million in 2019. The tower faced closures during the initial pandemic lockdown in France from March to June 2020 and later from October 2020 to July 2021.

Breaking down the visitor demographics, the largest share, constituting 18.9 percent of the total, hailed from France itself. North American visitors, including a significant 13.2 percent from the United States alone, made up 18 percent of the total. Non-French Europeans comprised 44 percent, with notable contributions from Germany, Britain, and Spain.

Moreover, the Rugby World Cup held last year contributed to increased visits from countries in Oceania, particularly Australia and New Zealand.

Notably, other major attractions in Paris, including its prominent museums, also witnessed a return to pre-pandemic visitor numbers, some even setting new records in the past year.
