Recent Rumors: Microsoft's Plan to Expand Game Releases to PlayStation 5 For weeks now, there have been persistent rumors surrounding Microsoft's intentions to release some of its 1st party games, including Hi-Fi Rush and Sea of Thieves, on rival platforms. According to our sources, who prefer to remain anonymous due to lack of authorization to discuss company plans, this list of games also includes Bethesda Game Studio's Starfield. Starfield, which was released back in August 2023, received a fairly positive reception (despite the narrative now circulating online) and became the biggest Bethesda game launch of all time, surpassing 6 million players and it is huge within a week Now, it seems Microsoft is planning to bring Bethesda's newest RPG universe to an entirely new platform – PlayStation 5. Sources indicate that Microsoft is currently planning to launch Starfield on PlayStation 5 after the release of the already announced "Shattered Space" expansion for Xbox and PC, scheduled to arrive later this year. Additionally, Microsoft has reportedly invested in PlayStation 5 development kits to support ongoing development efforts, adding further weight to these rumors. The idea of bringing 1st party titles to competing console platforms signifies a significant shift in strategy for Microsoft. However, according to our sources, this decision has not been without fierce internal debate. Sarah Bond, President of Xbox @ Microsoft Says- "It is awesome to share with you for the very first time one of the most anticipated games in the world, from Todd Howard and the team at Bethesda Game Studios – a ground breaking game, and yes – it's exclusive." Reportedly, Microsoft's senior leadership have debated the various pros and cons of releasing more of their exclusive software elsewhere, and internally, not everyone is necessarily happy with the decision. However, the potential financial gain from releasing on other platforms may have ultimately outweighed these concerns. According to sources, the release of Hi-Fi Rush on rival platforms is tentatively planned for Q1 of this year, and we can expect Microsoft to make a more public announcement on this new strategy later this month.
