Bayern Munich Set to Face Werder Bremen After Mini-Break

After starting 2024 with a solid but not particularly spectacular win against Hoffenheim, Bayern Munich is back in action following a short break of about nine days, including a training camp in Portugal.

The question on everyone's mind is whether the extended break will help Thomas Tuchel and his team regain their rhythm. There's also the lingering uncertainty of whether Werder Bremen, like Eintracht Frankfurt earlier in the season, can pull off a surprise against Bayern after a prolonged rest. Only time will tell.

In terms of team news, there's mostly positive information. Despite an injury earlier in the week, Matthijs de Ligt is back in team training and confirmed to start. Joshua Kimmich and Eric Dier have rejoined the squad after the births of their children, and there are no new injuries to report. However, the absences of Noussair Mazraoui and Kim Min-jae pose a challenge for the coach to address.

The lineup is expected to remain largely unchanged, with Harry Kane leading the attack and supported by Leroy Sané, Thomas Müller, and Jamal Musiala. Musiala played a more central role in the previous game, while Müller acted as a roaming winger, leaving room for tactical curiosity in the upcoming match.

One potential change could be Leon Goretzka stepping in for Raphaël Guerreiro. Goretzka provided an assist in the last game, contributing to an otherwise lackluster offensive performance. Joshua Kimmich is likely to resume his role, but whether he plays as a true No. 6 or more of a No. 8 is yet to be seen.

The defense is expected to remain unchanged, featuring Alphonso Davies and Konrad Laimer on the flanks, and Matthijs de Ligt and Dayot Upamecano in the middle. With Manuel Neuer in goal, the starting XI could shape up as follows.
