WASHING INSTRUCTIONS
Cotton:
Cotton fabrics should be hand-washed in cold water with a mild soap. Do not soak fabrics. Find a shaded area for drying and avoid direct sunlight. Wash coloured clothes separately. Colours like maroon, red, purple, magenta, orange, dark blue, dark green and turquoise tend to run and should never be in contact with other clothes while wet. Before washing, test the colour for fastness. Immerse the corner of the cloth in a cup of water for 15 to 20 minutes. If the colour runs, dissolve five tablespoons of salt in a bucket of cold water and soak the garment in this solution for two hours. This may ensure colour fastness.
Blend of Cotton, Linen and Rayon
The yarns used in these hand-woven fabrics are enriched with different properties and have different tendencies of shrinkage. It is recommended that garments made with these fabrics are dry cleaned in order to preserve them in their original form as when bought. Please note that the colours of these fabrics may run, although washing will not diminish the colour and lustre of the fabric.
Silk:
The heavy textured dhupian silk, the soft and lustrous silk from Rajshahi, the famous Dhaka muslin and endi are all woven with the finest silk yarns and need special care. Dry-cleaning is essential to preserve their sheen, colour and lustre as contact with moisture might damage their vivid colouring.
Zari:
All fabrics that have hold threads (zari) interwoven must be dry cleaned. Washing often kills the zari and the fabric is likely to shift.
Jamdani:
Jamdanis must always be dry-cleaned.
